Bridges Help Desk event: Accessing Aira
Date: June 18
Isn’t it great that there is a #NationalSplurgeDay? We're inviting Maryland blind/low vision transition-age students to join the Free Bridges Helpdesk this Friday, June 18, at 5 p.m. as we celebrate the end of the week and the beginning of summer!

In this Bridges Helpdesk Outreach activity, students will get together in the Free Bridges Helpdesk Zoom room at 5 p.m. and discuss a great tool for accessing visual information: Aira. Aira is a service where you can call a trained agent in real-time to assist you with tasks in which visual information might be helpful.

If the students you support don’t have an Aira account yet, that’s no problem: accounts are free, and we’ll walk the students through the process. We’ll show them how to use Aira and share tips from seasoned Aira users. We’ll then take time to practice: using Aira’s free five minutes offer. We’ll take time to chat, share our summer plans, and just enjoy being with each other.

We’ll also share other ways to use Aira at NO COST. One of the free ways to access Aira support is the Aira Access program, where Aira is free to use at certain airports, governmental offices, colleges, museums, and stores, including Starbucks, Target, Walgreens, and Wegman’s.

We’ll hang out as long as the students want, but before they leave, we will need something from them: the name of their favorite Aira Access location. Why? Because after the event, we will send all Maryland participants ages 14-21 a gift card for the Aira Access location they choose. That way, they can practice using Aira for free at their favorite store—and shop for free!

Space is limited, so please ask the students you support to sign up NOW on our Accessing Aira: #NationalSplurgeDay web form<https://maryland.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=da8f913f82891276e85e5bd03&id=7a7fb4f699&e=f570d81d7e>! We’ll send your student the Zoom link after you register. We’re looking forward to an evening of learning, laughter, and (shopping) lists!

Annual Awards Announcement

It's that time again to think about nominating your colleagues in the vision and rehabilitation fields. The awards will be presented at the annual conference on October 22, 2021.
