Hello Families,
The National Federation of the Blind works to improve opportunities for
blind students in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics. NFB STEM2U, brings nonvisual accessible STEM lessons and
activities to blind youth. The theme this year is space! Students of varying
ages will receive instruction from NFB personnel, blind mentors and expert
instructors.
This program is designed for blind and low-vision students in grades three
to eight grade who:
* Are interested in STEM
* Are unsure about STEM but interested in a fun program specific to
blind students
* Are in need of hands-on, nonvisual skills training opportunities
from blind role models
Also, the Maryland Organization of parents of Blind Children will be holding
a simultaneous work-shop on making STEM accessible. Parents will have the
opportunity to learn about educating blind youth in the STEM fields, hear
from blind high school students on their experiences, and at the end of the
day parents and students will face off to see who can conduct the best
experiment.
