</font>Did you know that March 2nd is Read Across America Day and Dr.
Seuss' birthday? In 1998 the <a href="http://www.nea.org/">National
Education Association</a> began celebrating
<a href="http://www.readacrossamerica.org/"><font color="#800080">Read
Across America Day</font></a> as one more way to motivate youth to read!
This year the National Federation of the Blind is excited to announce
that we are joining in this celebration of the importance of literacy for
all children. Read Across America asks everyone across the country to
celebrate reading and Dr Seuss on March 2nd because it’s his birthday! At
the NFB we are asking you to celebrate by joining us on March 2nd to
extol the significance of literacyespecially Braille literacyby doing
the following three things:<br>

</font><a name="_GoBack"></a>1. READ Dr Seuss! This is what this day is
all about. You can find online versions of Dr. Seuss books to download in
Braille at
<a href="http://www.bookshare.org/"><font color="#800080">Bookshare</font></a><font color="#800080">

<a href="http://www.loc.gov/cgi-bin/zgate.nls?ACTION=INIT&FORM_HOST_PORT=/prod/www/data/nls/catalog/index.html,z3950.loc.gov,7490&CI=151238">
Web-Braille</a> and you can find actual Braille books at
<a href="http://www.seedlings.org/order.php">Seedlings</a> or
<a href="http://www.nbp.org/ic/nbp/publications/all_books.html">National
Braille Press</a>. If you read one of Whosit’s favorite Dr. Seuss books,
<i>Bartholomew and the Ooblek</i>, there is a lesson in the
<a href="http://www.nfb.org/BELL">NFB BELL Program</a> Curriculum to
<a href="https://stage.nfb.org/images/nfb/Ooblek%20Lesson.doc">make your
own Ooblek!</a><a name="_GoBack"></a><br>

</font>2. Tell us about what you are reading! Whether you are reading Dr.
Seuss or not, we still want to hear about it. Post about it on Facebook
and Twitter using the hashtags #Braille and #neara12 (that stands for
National Education Association Read across America 2012). You can talk
about what you are reading, suggest books, ask for suggestions, post
about why you love Braille and why it is important, or about anything
else. We want to hear from you.<br>

</font>3. Send us a video of your child reading Braille or show how you
celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Whosit will choose his favorites and
those will be posted on his Facebook page, the NFB’s YouTube page, and
