Special Election and constitutional amendment process

 At the annual business meeting of the Michigan Association of Blind Students, during convention, on November 1, 2025, the previous MIABS board made an amendment to the student constitution, to remove the two at large board positions. This resulted in the student board consisting of the president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. This decision was made by the previous board due to low membership, inactivity of the membership they did have, and unexpected obligations popping up for board members that kept them from meeting quorum.
 After I was elected president, at that meeting, I promised that once our division grew, we would reevaluate those positions and rewrite the constitution as necessary. I am proud to say that we are at that stage. The constitution is currently in the process of being revised and prepared to present to you, the membership.
 As we must amend the constitution to reflect this change, present it to the membership, discuss and vote on the changes, we will be turning our normal two hour business meeting in March, to two, one hour meetings instead., It is of utmost importance, that every member attend these meetings, so you can be aware of the changes, discuss any concerns, and assist voting in the new board members, as that is your constitutional right within our organization. This is the time to make your voices heard.
 Our first business meeting will be March 7th, from 3:30-4:30p.m.. We will read the constitution as it currently is, discuss the proposed amendment, and answer any questions.
 The second business meeting will be March 8th, from 3:30-4:30p.m. At this meeting, we will read the constitution and proposed amendment again, motion on said amendment and vote. Once the amendment is finalized and adopted, we will hold a special election to put the new board members in place that will serve in those positions.
