The MIABS Mosaic Vol. 3.3
March 29TH, 2026
Message from the Treasurer Danielle Agajan
Hello fellow federationists and welcome back to our third installment of the Mosaic monthly wrap up. It's hard to believe that we are stepping out of March and springing forward into the month of April. We have accomplished so much as a division in such a short amount of time, and with our drive and motivation, I don't see signs of stopping anytime soon. The weather finally seems to want to cooperate, the birds are singing their springtime song and soon we will all be able to put away our winter gear and enjoy the beautiful sunshine. While we all anticipate the warmer weather, let's revisit the month of March and look forward to sunnier skies.
The Monthly Wrap up
Advocacy
President Crouch started off the month of March with Advocacy Awareness. If you weren't already aware, President Crouch and his Co-chair Kimyetta McClellan-Smith run an Advocacy committee every month on our student division zoom line. They are current;ly working on some guidance and support with Michigan colleges, but are always open to hearing about any advocacy concerns from you. If you are passionate about advocacy, or you have issues you think would be right for this committee, please feel free to join them and help spread the philosophy of the NFB.
Membership
Membership is up next and if you haven't heard, our division has an awesome and fun opportunity for our current members. Starting in the month of April through the end of May, we will be running "Guest Quest". This is an opportunity for our current members to bring guests to our meetings, whether it's a board or committee meeting. Bringing in new people allows us to try and build our membership while spreading the word about everything student division and NFB related. If that doesn't sound amazing enough, there's more. Our division will be running sweepstakes for every guest you bring in during that time. For each out of state guest you bring to a meeting, you will receive one entry into the sweepstakes and for every Michigan resident you bring in as a guest you will receive two entries. At the end of May we will randomly pick a name to win a $25.00 Uber/Lyft gift card. So make sure you reach out to everyone you know that is not a part of our division, but is a student, or interested in student affairs. Let's continue to build our division and give you all a chance at winning a small token of thanks!
Communications
As we round the corner in the month of March, we hit Communications with Secretary Steven. This is a super active committee, with tons going on, so if you have a passion for social media, technology, entertainment, podcasts, or live streams, make sure you join in on the action. Tech Talk hosted by Shaun Williams, was the first subcommittee to hit the ground running and has had several very strong runs so far, the next episode will land on April 1st at 7pm. This month's episode will center on a tech review of the microspeak, along with a chance to have all your tech questions answered. Keep your eyes and ears open for the next subcommittee coming out of communications, which will handle all things entertainment for the blind community. The first episode will go live in the month of April hosted by Steven Crouch.
Fundraising
As we head toward home, you meet up with me and Fundraising and Project Prepare with my co-chair Shaniece Milledge. Our fundraising committee has just finished up a double good popcorn fundraiser and we did a phenomenal job raising money during the four day event. We have lots of fun ideas on the horizon including a MIABS merchandise pop up shop, a Market your Strengths event, online food fundraising events and so much more. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more information as they come down the pipeline and remember, the more we all participate in raising funds, the more we can help everyone in our division as well as continue to host in person and virtual events at no cost to our membership.Join us on 3/30 at 6pm for our Project Prepare meeting and learn about everything we have been working on in our division, before it goes in front of the board for approval. This is your opportunity to have input on what things look like before the final vote.
Events
Finally we end the month discussing events, both those that have passed in the month of March, as well as those that are upcoming in April. The first event we should discuss is Midwest Seminar. Our division had twelve students (ranging in age from 14-66) and 16 participants total, attend this year, which is the most ever by this Michigan division. We took the number 1 spot for attendees and showed up loud, proud and ready to work. We could not be more proud of our group, we had an amazing time from the trip down, to the seminar and bonding before coming back home. A special thanks to Nabs for putting on the seminar and assistance with registration costs and to National President Mark Riccobono for his amazing tik tok shout out to our very own division. Due to the preparation involved in Midwest Seminar, we were unable to provide any virtual events this month, but stay tuned for our Double Feature Friday virtual event coming this April, it's shaping up to be a lot of fun.
