<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I guess I should say hi as well since I have been
on this list since the beginning. Although I was not able to attend the
convention last weekend I had the opportunity to meet some of you at last
summer's Mission Believe weekend. I think it is wonderful this list
exists. It would have been a tremendous help to my parents as I was
growing up. I vividly remember my mom telling me as I grew up that she
wished she could have had the opportunity to network with more parents of
blind children. I couldn't help but think throughout the Mission Believe
weekend how much something like that would have benefited me when I was that
age. Like Gary, I did not have blind role models growing up. I had
a wonderful resource teacher who was blind but that was it. I am so
thankful for NFB's commitment to blind kids not only in Missouri but
throughout the nation. I am also very proud to be a part of our efforts
here in Missouri. It is my hope that everyone on this list will
encourage other parents to become involved with this list as
well.</FONT></DIV>

say something to the list feels like I am lurking. It was wonderful to see
so many of you at the convention. I think that one of the most common
complaints I hear from young adults is how much better they believe their
opportunities would have been if only they had some blind role models
in their lives. I know that I often felt that way. I had good role models in
my mother, father, family members, and respected people in my community, but
none of them were blind, and so, while they gave me good examples of what a
man should grow up to be, I wasn't exactly sure that a blind man could grow
up to be that kind of person.</FONT></DIV>
