U.S. Access Board to Hold Open Forum in Minneapolis

The U.S. Access Board is a federal agency that promotes equality for people with disabilities through leadership in accessible design and the development of accessibility guidelines and standards.

The Access Board will hold a town hall meeting in Minneapolis on the afternoon of May 9 at the University of Minnesota. The event will provide an open forum where members of the public can pose questions to the Board or share comments or concerns related to accessibility. There also will be panel discussions with local speakers on outdoor recreation and Target's accessibility program.

The event begins at 1:30, the panel discussion will take place at 2:00, and the open forum will take place between 3:00 and 4:00 pm.

Minnesota's Olmstead Subcabinet Seeks Feedback

People with disabilities and their families are invited to participate in a special public comment period on person-centered practices during the Olmstead Subcabinet meeting on Monday, April 24, 2017.

This is your opportunity to share your thoughts and experiences with the Olmstead Subcabinet regarding:

  *   What is working well with person-centered practices?
  *   What are some opportunities for improvement?
  *   What would you like the Subcabinet to know about your experience with person-centered practices?

There are several ways to share your comments, thoughts, and experiences (please submit your comments before April 30, 2017):

  *   In person - Attend the Olmstead Subcabinet meeting on April 24, 2017, in person or by phone. The meeting is scheduled from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Park Square Court Building, 400 Sibley St., St. Paul, in the State Street Conference Room on the first floor. Low Vision Store Open house with VFO Products

On May 2nd, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the Low Vision Store and VFO will host an open house at SSB's St. Paul office at 2200 University Ave. W.

VFO has merged three leaders in the low vision and blindness industry: Freedom Scientific, Optelec and Ai Squared.   The merger has created many new changes and upgrades to their products. Various products will be available and representatives will be on hand to answer questions.
