Subject: [Nfbmn-news] NFB of Minnesota Update

August 23, 2017

Dear Minnesota Federationists:

Reminder: Those who are attending the Walk for Opportunity should please sign up with Jennifer Wenzel by August 25 to let her know what type of lunch you would like ($7.50: turkey, ham, tuna salad, egg salad, or veggie; cheese or no cheese). Also let her know if you need a seat on the metro chapter bus.

If you are planning to attend the NFB of Minnesota Board of Directors meeting this Saturday in Saint Louis Park and have not yet let me know, please do so--thanks!

Our new BLAST program is a once-a-month session for children ages 5-13 and their parents, held at our headquarters in the metro area. The first session will be on Saturday September 23. Please spread the word. The information packet can be downloaded from http://www.nfbmn.org.

To-Do List (AKA Things You Can Do To Help)
☐	Help raise money for our 36th Annual Walk for Opportunity:
http://members.tcq.net/nfbmn/Move.html

☐	If you plan to participate in the Walk for Opportunity, please
reserve a lunch and a bus seat by contacting Jennifer at jwenzel at blindinc.org, right away and no later than August 25th.

☐	Make your hotel reservations for our annual state convention of the
National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota, October 20-22, by calling (877) 303 1681.

☐	If you use a guide dog, give feedback (positive or negative) on your
experiences using Uber and Lyft, and encourage anyone you know who uses a guide dog or other service animal to do the same:
https://nfb.org/rideshare

☐	Attend your local chapter meeting:
http://members.tcq.net/nfbmn/chapters/index.htm

☐	Call your Congressman or Congresswoman and ask him or her to
cosponsor these three bills: the AIM HIGH Act (H.R. 1772), the Access Technology Affordability Act (H.R. 1734), and the TIME Act (H.R.
1377). Please also call senators Franken and Klobuchar and ask them to cosponsor S. 732. If you aren't sure who your representative is, find the name and contact information by entering your zip code at http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/. If you'd prefer, the number to the Capitol Switchboard is 202-224-3121; from there, the operator can transfer you.

Important Dates Coming Up Soon:

• Saturday, August 26, 10:00 AM: Board meeting of NFB of Minnesota in Saint Louis Park

• Saturday, September 9th: NFB of Minnesota Walk for Opportunity in Rochester http://www.nfbmn.org/Move.html

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back
