Award Promotes Entrepreneurs with Disabilities

the Judd and Barbara Jacobson Award recognizes the pursuit or achievement of a business entrepreneurial endeavor by a person with a disability. This year's award recipient will receive a $10,000 cash award to advance their business endeavor. Applications must clearly identify how the money will be used to further a business. Residence of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and North or Sout Dakota who are over 18 and have a physical or sensory disability are eligible to apply. Applications are due on June 28. BeTheOne Video Contest

The disAbilities Awareness Task Force, a collaborative of 15 local Sauk Rapids agencies, is promoting the #BeTheOne Video Contest. The two minute video should promote a message on one or more of the following:

  *   Treating people with disabilities or those who are different with respect
  *   Finding ways to be inclusive of those who have a disability or who are different from you
  *   Ending bullying for those with disabilities
  *   Using language that empowers people with disabilities
  *   Inviting others to #BEtheONE to make change with and for themselves, schools and community.

Vending services at fourteen of Minnesota's road-side rest areas are run by blind or visually impaired small business owners through our Business Enterprise Program. If your Memorial Day weekend or summer plans take you past any of these locations, take a break, stretch your legs, and enjoy a snack or a cold drink. What's more, a portion of the sales at any of Minnesota's rest areas supports the business enterprise program. Rest areas run by blind and visually impaired business owners include:

  *   Middle Spunk Lake (I-94 westbound, near Avon)
  *   Burgeon Lake (I-94 westbound, Douglas County)
