Hello everyone,

Earlier today, I joined Elizabeth, Samantha, Tara, Tristan, and the students today at our NFB-BELL Academy. We read a story together and played an energetic game of Braille Twister. Too often, we hear about the low expectations and poor quality education that blind students receive. On the contrary, the preparation, excitement, and high expectations on display this week and next fill my heart with warmth. As one example, the students practiced their non-visual skills by using braille crayons to decorate their poster boards (while wearing their learning shades)! Thank you Aida, Jennifer, Judy, and Kallie for your volunteerism over the next two weeks, too.

As promised at the June board meeting, I am writing to invite you to a conversation next Monday to continue the planning of our state convention. I would like to gather your feedback about the auction, door prizes, youth activities, speakers, sessions, and exhibitors. The convention succeeds each year, because many people take on leadership roles before and during the fall event.

I welcome each of you that are interested in helping with convention to reach out to me and/or attend the meeting next Monday evening.

I look forward to hearing the ways in which you’d like to contribute to building the blind people’s movement!
