Good evening everyone!
Please forgive my brevity as I write to you while recovering from the flu. I wanted you to be among the first to know that our building at 100 East 22nd Street has sold!
The buyers plan to turn the Pilsbury Mansion into an upscale bed and breakfast similar to their current property at 300 Clifton in Minneapolis <https://300clifton.com/> .
As you are likely aware, the NFB of Minnesota owned 10% of the building and the Minnesota Center for the Blind owned 90%, so the net proceeds were split in the same manner. Given the extensive repairs that the building needed, both boards unanimously approved the offer of $800,000 earlier this year. After commission, fees, and assessment, the net proceeds were $730,167.
This is on top of the proceeds that we received from insurance, after the roof sustained significant hail damage, in the amount of $536,946.
Therefore, the affiliate is now in receipt of $126,710.
While we all have significant attachment to the real estate, we remain focused on our work improving the lives of blind Minnesotans. We will be investing these funds in our future programs, and I look forward to hearing your ideas about what we can start and continue doing to advance our mission. Furthermore, while we don’t own joint property with the Minnesota Center for the Blind we nonetheless are committed to continuing our long tradition of partnership between the organizations to provide high-quality, blind-led training to people across the country.
Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved very soon!
