Good evening!
Next week, we will host our annual Day at the Capitol where we meet with our state legislators. We will gather as a group at 8:15 AM, then break into groups for our meetings with legislators throughout the day. If you haven’t already, please write to Jennifer Dunnam, who chairs our Government Affairs Committee, so we can ensure you’re on the list. I’ve included her original note below. In the next couple of days, we’ll distribute the fact sheet about our three issues.
Register by Sunday evening via email to jennifer.dunnam1829 at gmail.com <mailto:jennifer.dunnam1829 at gmail.com>
On the topic of legislative advocacy, I’m grateful and excited to report that our 10-person strong delegation made a big impact at last week’s Washington Seminar! We personally met with several representatives, Sen. Tina Smith, and staffers for every member of the Minnesota Congressional delegation. If you were not able to join us, there will be more opportunities this year for you to advocate from your home with these elected officials as we work to protect the rights of blind Americans, increase access to websites and software applications, create a nonvisual access standard for medical devices, and remove the earnings cliff from Social Security for those on SSDI.
I look forward to seeing you next week, if not before!

Subject: Save The Date: 2/19/2025 Day At The Capitol
SAVE THE DATE!
2025 NFBMN Day at the Capitol
Wednesday, February 19, 2025
Join via Zoom!
Our annual Day at the Capitol is typically when we gather in St. Paul to meet our representatives and senators face-to-face, To educate them about blindness and to bring momentum to our legislative efforts on behalf of blind Minnesotans.
This year, to let the dust settle on some construction logistics and some power-sharing negotiations in the Legislature, we have changed the date from what may previously have been announced at some chapter meetings. We'll be back at the Capitol in person next year even with the ongoing construction, but this year We have also opted to conduct the event virtually via zoom (as we became expert at doing during the pandemic a few years ago!)
Please save the date and join in! If you plan to be with us virtually on February 19, please send a quick email to jennifer.dunnam1829 at gmail.com <mailto:jennifer.dunnam1829 at gmail.com> to let us know.
Our legislative priorities will involve quality education for blind children, ending subminimum wages, and accessible prescription labeling. We will send more specifics as the time gets closer.
As usual, participants will be put into groups, and each group will have an experienced team leader who understands the legislative process. We will send each group an itinerary of appointments, Zoom links, and phone numbers.
Please reach out with any questions, and we hope to see as many members as possible for some or all of the day on February 19th. More information will be with you soon!
Thank you,
The NFBMN Governmental Affairs Committee
