Greetings, fellow federationists,<br>
This weekend, a dozen federationists traveled to Duluth, where we spent
time with Twin Ports chapter members and held our board meeting. At the
meeting, we discussed the state convention, goals for the upcoming year,
the work we are doing to increase membership, and much more. I will be
discussing all these topics in future installments of this update.<br>
This was only the second time I had ever been to Duluth, but the warm
welcome we received there reminds me of the common goals and bonds of
friendship we share, and it underscores that we are an organization for
all blind Minnesotans across the state. Thank you, Twin Ports, for making
us feel like part of the family.<br>

<b>Taking a trip?<br>
</b>If you will be traveling between now and Jan. 1, and you plan to take
a Greyhound bus, please contact me beforehand. I’m hopeful, with the
holidays approaching, that we can find prospective travelers. Thanks, in

<b>Ride Share Survey<br>
</b>If you or someone you know travels with a service animal, please help
us by taking our ride share survey. We want to ensure drivers for Lyft
and Uber are not discriminating against passengers who travel with a dog
guide, and I need everyone’s help to collect the necessary feedback. To

<b>Book your hotel for State Convention<br>
</b>I can’t post this enough. It’s reservation time!<br>
The 2018 convention in St. Cloud is coming up, and I encourage everyone
to book your hotel rooms as soon as possible. You can call the hotel now
at (320) 253-0606 to book your room. Just be sure to tell them you’re
with the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota to lock in the $99
room rate. We will be there from Nov. 16-18, and I hope you will
too.<br>

<b>Member Spotlight<br>
</b>If you would like to be featured in an upcoming member spotlight,
please send me a brief bio or a few notes about you, and I’ll be sure to
include you in a future update. This week we get to know Rocky Hart, one
of our newer members and an active presence in our student division and
beyond. He writes:<br>
I, Rocky Hart was born in Saint Cloud, Minnesota in December 2002 and
have been blind since birth. I spent most of my life in the Crosby
Ironton area, attending School there for 10 years. In September
2015, I transferred to the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind, where I
have performed very well, both socially and academically. I
formally moved to Eagle Bend, Minnesota in January 2017 and joined the
NFB a year later. I have a passion for my devout Christian
faith, politics, and am an avid Minnesota Vikings Fan. Scoll
Vikings!!!!<br>
