Joy held a number of positions in our organization including serving as president of the NFB of Alabama. After her death, her husband, Allen Harris moved back to Michigan to be nearer to their children. Apparently while living with his son, Allen fell down some stairs and sustained some very serious injuries. After a time in the Intensive Care Unit, Allen also passed away late last week.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Allen was the president of the NFB of Michigan for many years and was also a national board member and our national treasurer. He was also the chair of the Jernigan Fund which grants scholarships to attend the national convention. In addition, he was the Assistant Director of the Iowa Department of the Blind for a time, and some will remember his big voice at national conventions selling Iowa folding scissors. He attended the Minnesota state convention at least once and possibly more. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Allen’s service will be on August 16 at 5:00 Central time.
