As you know, the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota is trying
very hard to be inclusive to all blind Minnesotans, including those with
multiple disabilities. Over the past several years, it has become
apparent that many Minnesota federationists are living with a hearing
impairment in addition to their blindness, which carries with it both
unique challenges and perspectives. We want to better understand the
issue affecting this population so that we can work together to improve
the lives of our DeafBlind members. <br><br>

On March 4, 2023, the NFB of Minnesota Board of Directors voted to
formally establish the DeafBlind group, chaired by Rocky Hart. Rocky also
assisted with this announcement. Below is the official mission statement
of the group as adopted by the board: <br><br>

“The purpose of the NFB of Minnesota DeafBlind Group is to be a resource
on issues relevant to its DeafBlind members, recommend positions to be
taken by the NFB of Minnesota on external policy matters that affect
DeafBlind people, and make recommendations to fully involve our DeafBlind
members. Members of the DeafBlind group must be members of the NFB
of Minnesota and have an interest in issues that affect DeafBlind
persons.”<br><br>

As you have already seen, there will be a presentation regarding services
available to DeafBlind Minnesotans at the At Large chapter meeting this
Sunday evening, April 16, at 7:00 PM. Some additional discussion of
our new DeafBlind group will also take place there, but we plan to have a
separate meeting within the next few weeks.<br><br>

Anybody can attend the At Large meeting on Sunday, and we have included
that announcement again at the end of this email. If you are interested
in joining the DeafBlind group or would like to obtain more specific

This month, the At-large Chapter of the NFB of Minnesota has a special
meeting in store for you. We will be talking about services for
DeafBlind persons in Minnesota. First, Matthew Prieb, the Adult Community
Services Manager at DeafBlind Services of Minnesota will be presenting to
the chapter this Sunday on services the agency offers. Secondly, we will
also be announcing the formation of the DeafBlind group which will be
chaired by our own Rocky Hart, and is a part of the NFB of
Minnesota.<br><br>
