During the civil rights marches of the 60's, I was a little boy. But I
clearly remember hearing news reports of people singing We Shall Overcome
while marching. It's a beautiful song that can have multiple
interpretations. It's a song I like to sing from time to time while sitting
in my living-room at our piano.

In those days, the song focused the determination of one of my own heroes,
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on combating the injustice of racism in our
country. It is comforting and encouraging to know that Dr. King and so many
other people involved in the non-violent struggle that ultimately brought so
much good to our country disagreed with the idea that they could not sing a
certain song in public. I thank God that we still live in the United States
of America where we have freedom of religion and not freedom from religion.
We are still free to say or to sing what we like in private or in public.

Sincerely,
Bill

Joshua,
We are not only "considered" civil rights activists; we *are* civil
rights activists!

Fraternally yours,
Marion
