[musictlk] AP music theory

Hi.

I took AP music theory three years ago when I was a senior in high
school. I did well in the class, but I felt like the information was
rather rushed and sometimes difficult to follow.

First of all, you need the book in braille. Do you read braille
music? If so, you will want to get the book in braille and braille
your exercises in class and for homework. You can braille them to
help yourself and then dictate the answers to your teachers, or if you
are lucky enough to have a vision teacher at your school who reads
braille music, then that person can help you by transcribing your
music.

I definitely recommend doing as much in braille as possible. I am in
college now, and I do most of my music work in braille as well as by
ear. It helps to be proficient in both.

If you plan to take the test at the end of the year, getting in
braille may be your best option. I was not allowed the option of
having the test read to me. In the end I did not take the test
because I found it would have been useless since the college I go to
automatically makes every student start at least in the first level of
theory. I'm not going to lie: AP theory is a difficult class, and it
will be a lot of work, especially depending on your proficiency in
braille music, but it's very useful and provides a great basis for
music in college. I don't regret taking it.

Feel free to email me off list if you have any further questions. Good luck.
