    In the early 1900's, one of the ways to earn a living as a blind
musician
was to market yourself as a blind blues guitarist.  Blind Boy Billy, Blind
Willy McTel,  Blind Lemon Jefferson, Reverend Gary Davis who also used Blind
Gary Davis as a nickname are just a few.  Even Bob Dylan who as you know is
not blind
used Blind Boy Grunt as a name early in his career.  Using the blind
expression as a part of your name in some ways added credibility to one's
blues artistry.
