[musictlk] Final thoughts

Even though I have limited Choir experience, I can see that I am developing
some of the skills you are all mentioning. I have already been approached by
other Choir members who are astonished by my skills so far. Aside from my
personal pleasure at doing a job well I am enjoying the opportunity to
present a competent persona. Quite a few of the Choir members have related
stories of their family members who have or are losing vision. It saddens
me to hear their stories. None of them have been positive. There is still
so much educating we need to do with the public so when families are
presented with new challenges, such as vision loss, they can better support
the individual and as a result their whole family. In some small way I
believe that by doing my best I can begin to alter their perceptions.

My concerns with initial downbeats and especially long unpredictable ritards
will at present probably need the pinky holding technique.
Thank you all for helping me with my musical technique and thereby present
the competent persona I am striving for.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Diane

It becomes a sort of instinct. I belong to the River city Mixed chorus and I
am totally blind, but once you learn the music it becomes second nature to
know what is going on. Well for me. It is a little like hearing with your
voice.

It is the dancing that I have to feel my neighbor to get. LOL

Good Luck,
Atty

I have sung with the Orange Community Master Chorale since May 2002. I have
also sung with the First United Methodist Church of Orange for that length
of time. Both choirs have the same dirrector. I have gotten use to the way
Mike Short works and can anticipate what he is going to do durring a song.
That, of course takes time.

I Agree with Atty and the others.

I have sung in a number of choirs over the years, and even though I am
totally blind, it becomes second nature to me.
I like the phrase that was used "hearing with your voice." Plus, I feel the

music and can usually anticipate what is about to happen next, unless it is
changed during the rehearsal.
Just go and let Goddd...! Soon you'll be telling other new choir members
how you do it so successfully...!

I agree, I listen to the choir director for our church choir and I also can
feel the music, so I can pick up on changes, and in some cases "hidden"
harmonies that others don't pick up. Like Ann Martin said, let go and let
God.
Love and prayers,

Hi-

This autumn I have joined our local community chorus. I have memorized the
various songs we will perform. I do have an issue I would love some
advice/recommendations with.

How do you follow the director through the various aspects of the score that
she will indicate via visual prompts? I have only a little light perception
and have been holding back a smidge on my reactions to hear what other
members are doing. I really hope, however, there is a better strategy I
could use.

Thanks in advance for your time in helping me.

Diane

she will indicate via visual prompts? I have only a little light perception
and have been holding back a smidge on my reactions to hear what other
members are doing. I really hope, however, there is a better strategy I
could use.

Thanks in advance for your time in helping me.

Have the person next to you link little fingers with you and move her finger
for beat patterns, lighter or harder for decrescendo and crescendo, touch
for fermatas, etc. Anything like that will work, if she's willing. You could
have her tap on the back of your hand, if that is more comfortable.

What has been suggested so far will work, but the longer you work with a
director, the more you will get use to that person's way of doing things,
(piano, ofrte ETC.)

Hello Mario,
This is Humberto writing back regarding your Braille Music compiler web
project. I want to use BRF as the table when entering Braille music, but I
get errors no matter what I try. I tried several steps such as: copying and
pasting from a Braille writer program (duxbury) so that the Braille
characters come out in standard computer braille, which I assume the site
accepts. then, after I paste and click the "Transcribe to print" button, I
get an error message "Unable to translate Braille music, try again."
Even when I tried to type the associated computer braille dot combinations
for if I was writing in braille, I still get the same message.
I also tried writing the Braille music from my Braille Note, then saving to
a BRF file, and pasting the contents of the BRF file onto the site with my
computer, and still get the same message.
I'll try to see if you can get this music to work using this link:
http://bmc.delysid.org/?table=brf&music=.%3E%22p%22]%22\+%22\%22]%22%24%22%3

Can you explain what's going on?
is there anything that I need to do before typing and / or pasting the music

into the edit field?
you can write me off list for your convenience. My direct email address is:
avila.bert.humberto2 at gmail.com
Thanks and happy thanksgiving.
