[musictlk] {Disarmed} Some Videos on Braille Music

If I am understanding their project correctly, they are mainly raising funds
to support a proposed recording project and tour for a particular pianist.
They do offer you an embossed piece of braille musical art if you donate to
their cause at a certain dollar level.

Hello,
I got this email from the Braille Music Chat email list. I'm not sure quite
what the kickstarter is, but the videos in the message would be great to
send to people who don't quite understand Braille Music.
Thanks,

Brandon Keith Biggs

Project Update #7: Reading music with Braille

Posted by Robert Douglass

You may be wondering what it is like to read music using braille.
Fortunately, there are a few good videos on the topic. Here is David Crohan
giving a short demonstration of sight-reading using a braille score.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGWfi_DM5XA

I spoke to David (he was very supportive of the Open Well-Tempered Clavier,
and our efforts to make more braille scores), and he absolutely confirmed
the need for more scores to be available. He's currently learning a
Beethoven Sonata from a score that is over 100 years old. I later found out
that in 2009 there were only 18,000 titles available as braille in the USA,
and only 1,000 of them were available as digital downloads.
Sheetmusicplus.com has over 800,000 titles, so that means that not even 1%
of the music available to sighted people is available to the blind.

Here is pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii as a child learning a score from braille.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA_AQSqhJ6A&feature=youtu.be&t=3m33s

He has also confirmed the severe lack of scores, stating "I do not know how
much Braille music has been published, but I know it is not much."
Here is Nobuyuki later, winning the Van Cliburn competition. Clearly, it is
worth investing in talented musicians, even if they're blind, because they
are fully capable of achieving the highest levels, and moving us profoundly
with their performance.

If you're wondering how braille music works, here's a good introduction to
the basic principles.

And, finally, here's something a bit more complex (and familiar!)
