[musictlk] Up bow/down bow, tips of note reading for kids, help?

Hi all,
1. Would anyone here explain me how "up bow" and "down bow" signs look like? I will start my first teaching on violin tomorrow. I need to know how the shapes of these signs. Help!
2. Would you give me tips to teach note-reading to sighted kids? I have a seven-year-old girl who has been learning piano with me for three weeks. She still can't recognize the notes based on the position on the line and space in bass and treble stave. I have made her a chart with Lime and Lime Aloud. I write the note names in every line and space (I introduce C to G for both left and right hand). It seems to me that kids nowadays pay attention if the teacher follows her/his eyes to the same thing. I can't use visual things like this since I am totally blind. Any tips so she can start read the notes and recognize the note names? Any games or activities that I can do?
