Hi. If you use an iPhone, iPod touch, or an iPad/iPad mini, there is
an app called talking tuner which is very useful! Also, it only costs
a dollar. You don't need to run voiceover to use it as it has it's own
speech output.

I use it for my guitars as well as my bass.

I'm not up on current tuners but the last Korg metranome I owned had a
built in A440 tone generator and that was fine for tuning up with...
