[musictlk] Seeking advice when working with bass players

Hi there,

Here's a question for you guys who have bands and need to work with bass
players.

My singing partner and I have a duo, and we enjoy having the sound of a bass
player playing behind us. Not having a regular bass player, we run into the
problem of people not knowing our songs and of us needing to have our songs
charted out in some way for the bass players. Granted, out stuff is fairly
simple folk and Bluegrass stuff, but still.

So, how have you dealt with that. How do you create music or chord charts
for others to be able to follow you? Are there programs that will help do
that, and if so, how do folks go about working with them? What
recommendations do you have for getting these things done?

My partner has developed lyric sheets that have the chords written above the
words. The problem is that the chord sheets are made for guitar players,
since we capo. A bass player would still have to transpose what we're
doing.

My partner is sighted, and his sheets are for himself or others to see. I
can still follow his sheets though with my screen reader or by running them
through a Braille printer.

Doing actual chord charts is a different story.

If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!

Jim
