Sure, I know nothing about the trombone.  The trombone is his 
main instrument, so I figured that I would make something special 
for him so he can always have.

 Do you know about the natural harmonic series? The first five 
open tones on the trombone B-flat F B-flat D and F.  If you write 
to your teacher that you understand the slide position growing 
drops the pitch by halfstep each position you can write happy 
birthday and 14 different keys if you want I'll send you the 14 
different ways to play that in the first five open tones or at 
least the slide positions and you can work out the timing on your 
own
