[musictlk] possible singing competition

Usually competitions have releases and such that you need to sign obligating
you to do whatever requirements exist if you were to win. It's a legally
binding contract.
I can't speak for how your state one works, but in the ones I'm familiar
with, if you get to a certain point, you have to sign that stuff; andit is
legally binding; and some even require any and all contestants to sign it
regardless.
Now, this is assuming that you would get that far.
Personally, if you do not want to sing professionally, and you do not want
the prize or the recording contract, don't bother. There are better and
probably more productive ways (if you sit down and think about
possibilities,) to gain confidence performing in front of a crowd, with less
ridicule and criticism about everything from how you sing to how you present
as a blind person; and things like weight, looks, etc.
Also, there's plenty of people who really are serious who want to win and
want to sing professionally and have a recording contract, so don't waste
their time and yours by not being serious. It's serious for many; and a play
sorta thing for you.

I recognize it's only a state sorta idol thing, but fact is, they're no less
brutal.
It's not just about your singing.
Now, of course there is the possibility that you wouldn't make it far, as
there are no guarantees in any competition; so you could always go and do
it, and if you get too far since you have no intent to do what you would be
legally required to do if you won, in this case, record and accept the cash,
drop out of the competition.
that does sorta look tacky though, so I still say if you have no desire to
do what you would be required to do if you were to win, don't enter into it.
Get a church job. If you're that good, good enough to compete vocally in an
idol competition, then you should be able to seek out paid solo gigs or even
do karaoke. After all, you don't need to compete in anything to try to get
mor confidence singing in front of a crowd. Just my thoughts...

Subject: [musictlk] possible singing competition

Hello,
I am looking into possibly auditioning for an Ohio Idol competition next
year. The prize for the winner is a cash prime and a chance for a recording
contract. I really don't want to record an album since I have no desire to
sing professionally nor do I want all the fame that comes with it.
Therefore, do you think that if I happened to be the winner, could I decline
the recording contract and just take the cash prize? If so, how do I do it
politely? I just want to do the competition to gain experience and
confidence.
Thanks,
Kelsey Nicolay
