I also learned to read Braille with both hands.  My elementary VI teacher was a stickler for this technique.  I can read and track fairly well with the left hand.  I still use two hands to read with a Braille display.

I too learned to read with both index fingers.  However, I continued to use two hands and still do.  Believe it or not, I use both hands to read on my apex too.
