Josh is right about the interview bit. I was part of a work study
program this summer and had access to an employment specialist for the
educational part of the program. He stressed that you never mention
the blindness bit until you go for the interview, and even then don't
make a big show about it. Just walk in like you normally would, and
then when the subject comes up explain that although you are blind,
you can still accomplish task X by doing Y differently. You may also
want to bring a piece of assistive technology, such as a notetaker,
along to demonstrate how braille works and explain what it can do. If
the employer knows that you can still produce word documents with a
notetaker or a computer with screenreaders on it, they'll be more
likely to consider you as competent as any other person in the
applicant pool.

What about SSI? I know it is a little tricky and can take some time
to set up, but getting a little extra money if you're unemployeed and
in need of it is important. You don't have to stay on it forever, and
I think most competent blind students get off of it once they find
gainfull employment, but while you're in school/job searching it can
really help.
