I use Audacity to convert to MP 3 with a free MP3 converter add on.

Hi. You can use goldwave or the trial version of AWA audio converter.
I use them for audio format conversion all the time and they are
totally accessible with jaws and NVDA.

And yes, mp3 files are fine for mac users too;they can open them in
iTunes, vlc, etc.

For best results, make sure you set the bit rate to 320kbps and the
sample rate to 44.1kHz.
