Good to hear, I know some people who are doing some of their more extensive
recording projects with reaper even though they have Sonar.

Subject: [musictlk] Reaper Anyone?

Dear All,

Recently I have downloaded the Reaper Digital Audio Work Station and
the screen reader software - OSARA - which makes it accessible. According to
the Reaper website, "REAPER is a complete digital audio production
application for Windows and OS X, offering a full multitrack audio and MIDI
recording, editing, processing, mixing and mastering toolset." Unlike
Audacity, Reaper supports the ASIO drivers most digital interfaces use, so
there is absolutely no latency. I have not yet delved into everything Reaper
can do, but I am subscribed to a list of blind Reaper users around the world
- Reaper Without Peepers (RWP) - and these people are doing everything with
Reaper the sighted users do. Unlike Sonar which requires CakeTalk and will
set you back about $800, Reaper offers a free evaluation license which is
not the stripped-down version but the full version of the DAWS. Again,
according to the Reaper website, there is only one version of Reaper and it
will do everything from a simple home studio to a professional recording of
an entire orchestra. The evaluation license is good for 60 days but can be
renewed as often as you wish until you have evaluated it sufficiently to
purchase it. And when you are ready to purchase it, the purchase price is
only $40. No I did not miss any zeros!

Now, this is not a commercial for Reaper, though I am, thus far,
pretty impressed with it, despite the fact I have not done much more than
create a very simple two-track test recording; however, with so many blind
people using it, I cannot imagine I will not be very impressed with its
power. The purpose of this message is to find out if there are any Reaper
users on this list with whom I can network and learn more about using the
software. If so, please write to me off-list at my music email address

Fraternally yours,
Marion Gwizdala
