Rob I am not a vocalist but I have an idea. Would it be  advantageous to
start by simply trying to tune your voice to the notes on a  piano until she
can find some professional help?  Or could that potentially set up some bad
habbits. Just a thought.

The best advice I can give is that (IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT) to find a
reputable voice teacher to help you. I know there are things out there
through email that can improve singing. Those kind of things will never
work. Good luck to you.
