Hi Linda,
Yes, I agree with you that some instructors are not comfortable 
with using touch.  I took lessons from a voice major in my senior 
year of college who was very uncomfortable using touch until his 
voice teacher finally had to tell him not to be afraid to use 
touch during our lessons.  It took a while for him to become 
comfortable with this.
