Well, I guess I'm kinda sorta low tech. I use a 440hz tuning fork to
tune my low A string to and then use a number of different methods to
tune up the rest of the instrument. These days I am fond of tuning to
perfect fifths by ear, so I'll fret the D string on the second fret
'E' and listen to it with the A string. With a very little practice
you can sing/hear perfect fifths without to much trouble. I do all the
rest of the strings in the same fashion. Second fret G string A
against the open D string etc.

The traditional method is to tune the fifth fret of each string to the
open string below it so fifth fret sixth string A to the open fifth
string A. up to the fourth fret on the G string to the open B string
and then back to the original pattern for the bottom two strings.

Another method is to tune harmonics which are the bell sounding note
you get when you touch say the twelth fret on any string while
plucking the string and immediately moving the finger you are touching
with off the string. The only problem with tuning to harmonics is if
the intonation of the intrument aren't right on you can get great
sounding tuning note for note but you won't be in tune as you move up
the neck.

Anyway, I'm sure there are loads of accessable tuning devices and apps
for cell phones but they are rarely as convenient and as available as
your ears.
