Sandra

Thank you for your thoughts. Michael has done all the other things you suggest. He wants to do it for himself.

Have a good day.

Respectfully yours,
Robert Leslie Newman

Hello Robert,
I think it's great that you want to give Michael as much help as
possible. I sincerely hope you asked him before putting his phone
number on the Internet. As he does not use a computer, I hope you made
him aware of the risk of doing this.

I am a soprano singer and use a computer to record audio for radio and
voiceover. I have started to build the software side of my home
studio. I have been using computers proficiently since I was 12 years
old and I find music software highly frustrating. I would urge you to
proceed cautiously with this project. If Michael is only just
starting to learn adaptive techniques for daily living as a blind man,
I would think that learning how to use music software from the ground
up is the last thing he would want to go through if he knew how
emotionally challenging it can be. However, if he is determined to do
this, I would suggest spending considerable time on basic computer
skills.

Is there a reason why he has to use a computer on his own? There are
other ways of committing his music to paper or C.D.; tape recording
himself and giving the recording to someone who can copy the music
using aural dictation, spending time with producers who already have
the equipment so he could create recordings by directing them…

As for day-to-day computer use, maybe someone on the list could
suggest a VI friendly basic computer course; MSWord, Email?

Please ask the moderator to take your friend’s phone number from this
email thread. I’m sure that any members on the list who want to give
Michael encouragement over the phone, they can liaise with you
OFFLIST.

I wish Michael every success!
Very best wishes,

Sandra Gayer DipABRSM.
