Ukulele strings are very soft on the fingers. You might not get
calluses. I play orchestral strings and do not have calluses.

Subject: [MusicTlk] Wish to avoid calluses on braille reading
finger

Hi list –

I have recently been gifted a ukulele. It’s my first stringed
instrument. I have avoided them because I don’t want to get
calluses on my braille reading finger. Now I feel compelled to
learn it.
( I have enjoyed practicing strumming various rythms so far)
So, how would you recommend I avoid calluses on my left
forefinger which is my only braille reading finger. My thoughts
are to restring the ukulele so I could chord with my right hand
or use some sort of a thimble maybe on my braille reading finger?

I look forward to any suggestions and ideas on what you have done
to avoid getting calluses on your braille reading fingers.

Diane and Jaxi
