[MusicTlk] hello

Hi Debra,

Welcome to the list.

I'm not sure we know why Louis Braille decided that eighth notes
should be written as they are. He had to start somewhere. It
would not make sense to start with the letter a for a eighth, b
for b eighth, and c for c eighth. Those first letters of the
literary Braille alphabet are used for other things: first
finger, second finger and slur respectively. Learn it as it is,
as a code all its own. Don't think of it as literary Braille
signs first, and you'll be OK.

Blessings,

Linda

Why did Louis Braille write eight notes with the dot numbers that
he
did? I can find a pattern for braille every not value, such as
quarter notes add dot 6 to the eighth note, etc.; I can't find
the
pattern for the reason for brailling eighth notes as he did, even
though the Braille music system is supposed to be a logical
system.

Welcome, Debra! I think this list would be a perfect one to ask
questions
about braille music. We have many very proficient readers on
here, as well
as some who teach the code. Ask away!
