I am not a member of NFB, but this may be the only list for musicians who are blind and who read braille music. I taught myself to read braille music from books back in high school back in the 1980's. I have studied voice and piano in the past and also flute and a bit of harmonica. The harmonica is fun and the tabs are easy to read and/or remember but the harmonica made my teeth vibrate and feel funny so I had to abandon it but still have some tabs I can play with. I am taking flute again from a young lady in my college town who needs some credits for teaching music and is giving free lessons. I am relearning where the keys are and stuff like that and I have some braille stuff as well as some Bill Brown material from the nls. I am a 47-year-old woman and I have my own apartment, I own two dogs, and I love to cook and do several yarn crafts. I also am an avid reader. I do gardening when it is in season. I can use a lot of the piano youtube videos but haven't tried with flute. I am interested in learning the violin but so far that hasn't taken off the ground yet. I haven't taken time to see how accessible flute videos are yet and am curious as to what you all think of that. I love music and at one time wanted to become a music teacher but that didn't work out. I am glad there has been an increase in what the nls is doing for flute music and flute players and I am also happy about the possible flute list for the blind and would definitely be interested in this. Thanks for taking time to read this and have a blessed day. Yes, music lessons are horribly expensive now. I was told back when I was in my teens and twenties that there was no money in music, so go figure, smile. Shadow and flame the sound editor for blind opens most sound formats and it's controlled only by the keyboard. It has a user friendly flexible interface. Program speaks everything what is needed using installed voices and omits unimportant things. We move using cursor arrows, home end keys. Very useful are page up and page down, after pressing I move by a small step and play. To select just hold a shift key. Sound editor uses typical keyboard shortcuts for cutting, coping, deleting. After selecting we can also add some sound effects. Speaking Teacher is a universal program for learning foreign languages. It can also operate in mode for blind. Just press the Tab key to switch. There are tests for learning English, Polish, German and Russian. To choose the test file use cursor arrows left, right, up and down. In case of giving the wrong answer it's possible to spell both the correct and the wrong answer or using cursor arrows for every single letter. These and other programs for blind can be downloaded from my internet site: www.sudermariusz.com.pl From mario980 at sudermariusz.com.pl Wed Nov 28 19:04:50 2018 From: mario980 at sudermariusz.com.pl (mario980 at sudermariusz.com.pl) Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2018 20:04:50 +0100 Subject: [MusicTlk] Short film about programs for blind In-Reply-To: References: <10b05b6f8afec78fc18b4829828c07fe@sudermariusz.com.pl> <00c301d4872f$ab436380$01ca2a80$@catlines.com> Message-ID: <3bb93feced6de045659bc106208ab968@sudermariusz.com.pl> W dniu 2018-11-28 17:57, Sandra Gayer via MusicTlk napisa?(a): > Hello Lauren, > The video was advertising a computer programme called Shadow and > Flame, for playing back files.
