Jim, thanks for that information. I do not yet have jaws 13, and am
wrestling with justifying the expense to upgrade from 10. I will investigate
upgrading my adobe as well. I will also investigate those links you
shared. Thanks so very much.

Hi Albert,
If you are fortunate enough to have JAWS 13, JAWS is supposed to help with
the recognition of PDF's that report that they have blank pages, but from
the what's new blurb, it looks like a very slow way to do things.

If you work in an environment in which you can get a copy of Adobe Acrobat
Pro installed, and you can get version X (version 10) the accessibility
wizard will ask if you want the program to recognize the pages of images.
This is a better solution, because it recognizes the whole document all at
once.

Also, I believe that OpenBook and Kurzweil scanning software can deal with
PDF's that have images of text rather than real text.

There's also a free solution called PDF2OCR from
http://www.EmpowermentZone.com/pdf2ocr.zip.

And I just typed in a Google search. I can't tell you how good any of the
solutions are, but you can see what you might want to try here.

Jim,

Can you share how you convert pdf's as I am investigating options on my end.
to often I am getting a pdf that, when once opened, I am being told it is an
empty document. would appreciate any insights into best practices or
software to help alleviate that issue. Peace.

Hi Brad,
Are you all set up for doing conversions to and from PDF?

Thanks.

Jim

Thanks for the input Ted and all. After
consideration, I'm thinking any fax need, which
for me is little, a trip to the neighbors or the
local convenience store would be fine. I think
most cases a pdf file via email would work.

Brad
