[nabentre] Digital Recorder

Hi,
That is totally amazing. To summarize, I just want to do two things: Talk into the recorder and play back what I say, because I forget lots of stuff. Record people I interview, with their permission, of course. Basically, I just want the quality of small cassette recorder. If the thing picks up stuff better than that, it would be a nice surprise.

Thanks.

Jim

Dear Brian,

Picky, picky, picky.
The one I have picks up just fine.
If there is a hum in the line, there is a hum in the line.
As I under stand it, he is just after the ability to record an incoming call
on a cheap digital recorder.
That is what I answered to.
If he wants to get a perfect, clear recording, and can spend the money for
the equipment than he is asking the wrong people. He needs to talk to an
audio engineer.
I do have some experience in this area as an engineer for General Electric,
Nuclear Energy Division.
I worked with a number of ex-nuclear sub sailors and we were developing a
acoustic leak detection system for use on steam generators and heat
exchangers for the Clinch River Fast Breeder Reactor Program.
This type of reactor uses sodium as a coolant instead of water. Sodium and
water don't get along and any leaks in the system can be explosive.
Therefore, we had to be able to detect micro leaks early and plug them off
safely. We were good enough that we could find leaks as small as 3 microns
inside a heat exchanger some 85 feet long
and 12 feet in diameter with over 200 individual tubes. We could even
detect rats walking on and around the heat exchangers and hear workers
working on and around them too. Leaks had their own signature and we
learned to screen out the other sounds.
