[nabop] coding software.

As I understand it, the options for medical transcriptionists are not as
broad as those of insurance billing specialists. I was strongly encouraged
to not even consider transcription. I do believe that the same basic course
information in medical terminology is provided for both. That means, I'll
take what I can until I get what I want.

I know of 3 people who were transcriptionists for years. That has been some
years ago now. One did work at home for a while and found it difficult to
get enough in her small town to make a good living. Things are more
electronic now than they were also. That might help. I have had some
people go through school and never get a job in that field.

I hear you and greatly appreciate your response. UMA is doing a wonderful
job of showing us how the job as an insurance billing specialist goes beyond
the computer desk. Just in case the option is available for me to work at
home, I am in the process of making the necessary technical preparations and
setting up an office space.

Of the people you know who have gone through the training, what is the
success rate? Or, would you say, that is based on the individual and what
they put out there?

Secondly, do you still have connections with those who have become
successful and might be willing to share experiences?

Thirdly, they are trying to find an accessible practice management system
that would work as a simulation for their courses. Are you aware of a system
that works well with JAWS?

Thank you in advance.

There are things to consider beyond software also. Are you planning to work
at home or in an office? If the job is in an office, other duties may be
required. That can be a good thing for sanity but may require some other
adaptations.

If you are working from home, you will need to consider hardware and
networking as well as software. Slow network speeds and unreliable hardware
can make life miserable because too much time is spent on submitting and
communication systems rather than on line count.

I have had several people go through school to become medical coders and
transcriptionists. I wish you well in your job search.

I also work in the Billing and coding field, I was the first blind graduate
of Branford Hall out here on Long Island in 2008, I worked for a Laboratory
here on Long Island, there software was windows based program so Windoweyes
and Jaws worked with it, it was there own program. I know that medical
manager doesn't work with them.
Many of the programs in doctors offices are windows based programs.
