While Firefox and Adobe Reader are not accessible with Voiceover at  
this time, Apple's proprietary applications (such as Safari for the  
Internet and Preview for PDFs) are accessible. Microsoft Word 2003 is  
not, but I do not know about 2008--in any event, Apple's own program,  
called Pages (which will export to a Word format) is accessible with  
Voiceover.
