Hello Angela and listers,

Better yet if NABS wishes to have its convention meeting recorded are
there some in the organization with the know-how and expertise to do this
professionally? Does anyone know if than national office will record the
NABS meeting? How about working with the Living History Group to have this
done? I would suggest exploring one of these avenues and using NABS funds
for other projects. This need not cost the division anything if assistance
is requested from the right persons or if some members volunteer to do this
for the division.

No, Jim, I think you might be jumping the gun a bit. I wasn't there, so
maybe I'm full of it but I don't think anyone was trying to lie to you or
deceive you. Sometimes things just fall through. In this case it seems like
it was inability to get enough financial backing. NABS understandably didn't
want to fit the bill alone, and no one else stepped forward probably because
few people knew about your attempt to have the seminar recorded. Now that a
lot of us know about it we can put our heads together and try to secure
funding from many different sources.
BTW, I'm a little bummed too, as there are so many things going on
that day which interest me it would have been nice to have the employment
seminar recorded. Let's see what can be done next year.
Failure isn't failure if something is learned from it, and in this
case we can take it and translate it into future success.

Peter,

Towards the begining of May, I talked to Buna, the Chair of the Employment
Committe, and she told me she was OK with recording the employment seminar,
provided Mrs. Jernigian was also OK with the idea, and Mrs. Jernigian was OK
with it.. So, now I find out that not only was I decieved by NABS
leadership, I was also lied to by the Chair of the Employment Committee. I
guess an idea is only good and viable if it is suggested by someone with
power within the organization. Fine. I will shut up and keep my ideas to
myself.

My guess is that all these people counted on me doing the standard student
thing, all talk and no action. My guess is, they "suppoprted" this idea to
simply avoid looking like the jerk who said "no". My guess us they never
really expected the idea to go anywhere, then, when the idea nearly became
reality, their only option left was to lie.

And then people wonder why talking-the-talk rarely leads to
walking-the-walk.

Jim
