Joseph,
It sounds like despite opposition they are not listening and are going
forward with closure. The best you can do as an organized group now is to
get the blind students that were enrolled at the school automatically
enrolled in the nearest residential school, wich is the washington school
for the blind.
Often students attending these schools have multiple disabilities or some
problems where their needs can't be met in an integrated public school
setting. THE IDEA law states children be placed in the least restrictive
environment, meaning the environment where their learning is best and they
aren't restricted. For these students its been determined that they need a
residential school. So they should be placed in another residential school
rather than be forced to attend their home public school with inadaquate
services.
These kids are vunerable and I hope the fight prevails and they can at least
attend another residential school.
