Jessica,

I think its important to work near public transportation.  I wouldn't want a 
job far out not near transportation.  You may have to change jobs.
I don't think an ad on craigslist or internet is a good idea for a driver. 
Yes
quacks would come out of the wood work on something like that.  Its better 
to ask in a safer setting and limit the pool of people you'd get.  If I 
wanted a driver I'd ask at work, in church and in the community I was a 
member of.  Retired people may be an option.  Those in lions or other 
service clubs are ideas.

Parts of the area have great transit like Arlington and Fairfax, but further 
out does not and its still considered northern va.  Loudoun and Prince 
William don't have much transit.  Hope others respond.  I think if your town 
doesn't have enough transit there are ways round it but its harder then. 
You can car pool or hire a driver.
