I would highly recommend reading FREEDOM FOR THE BLIND: THE SECRET IS 
EMPOWERMENT by James H. Omvig any time you or someone you know wants to 
justify attending an NFB or out-of-state training center. Jim explains 
what sets our centers apart from the rest in a clear fashion that 
anyone can understand, and he provides the language that rehab staff 
use; this can only help in writing teh justification itself. He also 
explaines what it is to adjust to blindness, the phases that we all go 
through in some shape or form, and how a training center like ours can 
help the process. Jim also addresses issues ranging from philosophy to 
sleep shades, from apartment living to Structured Discovery, and from 
consumer group participation to what comes after the training period 
has finished. It's a great book. I used it to justify my trip to 
Louisiana and succeeded with flying colors. Give it a go. What's the 
worst that could happen? If nothing else, you've read a great book.
