informational=20protests=20across=20the=20United=20States
to=20raise=20awareness=20about=20the=20practice=20of=20paying
wages=20below=20the=20federal=20minimum=20wage=20to=20Americans
with=20disabilities.=20=20The=20protests=20will=20take=20place
at=20the=20primary=20district=20office=20locations=20of
United=20States=20Senators=20serving=20on=20the=20Senate
Committee=20on=20Health,=20Education,=20Labor=20and
Pensions=20(the=20HELP=20Committee).=20=20The=20HELP
Committee=20is=20currently=20considering
legislation=ADthe=20Workforce=20Investment=20Act=ADwhich
would=20reauthorize=20the=20payment=20of=20subminimum=20wages=20to=20disabl=

workers.

equal=20work=20on=20the=20basis=20of=20disability=20is=20unfair,
discriminatory,=20and=20immoral.=20=20The=20senators=20who
serve=20on=20the=20HELP=20Committee=20must=20decide=20whether
they=20stand=20for=20the=20outrageous=20exploitation=20of
disabled=20workers,=20or=20for=20true=20equality=20for=20Americans=20with=20=

disabilities.=94



On=20Wednesday,=20August=203,=20the=20HELP=20Committee=20is
scheduled=20to=20vote=20on=20the=20Workforce=20Investment=20Act
(WIA),=20which=20contains=20language=20reauthorizing=20the
Rehabilitation=20Act=20of=201973,=20as=20amended.=20=20=20The
Rehabilitation=20Act=20is=20supposed=20to=20provide
services=20to=20disabled=20Americans=20so=20that=20they=20can
obtain=20competitive=20employment,=20but=20Title=20V,
Section=20511=20of=20the=20proposed=20Rehabilitation=20Act
language=20references=20Section=2014(c)=20of=20the=201938
Fair=20Labor=20Standards=20Act=20(FLSA),=20which=20allows
certain=20entities=20holding=20special=20wage
certificates=20to=20pay=20workers=20with=20disabilities
less=20than=20the=20federal=20minimum=20wage.
