Although I won't be going to Orlando so won't be able to vote, I wish you
good luck!

Subject: [nabs-l] Kirt Manwaring for NABS board

Dear NABS members and friends,
I just wanted to let you all know that I'll be seeking election to a
one-year board position at this upcoming NABS business meeting. I
feel I have the skills, attitude and experience needed to contribute
positively to this organization. I currently attend Brigham Young
University. There's a possibility I'll attend a training center this
upcoming year. If that doesn't pan out, I'll be going back to
college.
I have experience, both as a leader and as a member of the
Federation. I was a recipient of a NFB scholarship this last year.
Currently, I serve on the board of the Utah Association of Blind
students, where I've served as Vice President in the past. I spent
five years volunteering at a Boy Scout leadership camp where, two
summers ago, I had the chance to be the senior Patrol leader. This
means I was responsible for making sure that each boy attending the
camp received quality leadership instruction from our youth staff,
which consisted of about 15 scouts.
If elected to the board, I will do my best to empower blind students
and foster meaningful relationships with college disability offices.
I believe that with the right training and opportunity, blind students
can and do compete as equals in the classroom. We are just as capable
of serious academic study as anyone else. I intend to help us spread
that message to blind students, parents, professors and college
disability workers. Our organization has already accomplished a great
deal on behalf of blind students. I believe we can accomplish even
more as we work in conjunction with the rest of the Federation, and to
that end I hope to strengthen ties with devisions such as the NOPBC,
along with the federation at large. Here's hoping we can keep working
together to change what it means to be blind students. Thank you for
your consideration, and I'll see you all in Orlando!
  All the best,
Kirt
