Hi, Koby,
I can't tell whether your post is directed to me or someone
else who
responded to this thread, but if you have specific Braille Note
questions you may reach me off-list at bunnykatie6 at gmail.com and
I
will do my best to help. I stilluse a MPower so don't know much
about
the Apex.

 Hi, Anjelina,
As others have mentioned, the Braille Note takes a compact
flash
card, a SD card, or a USB flash drive, so you can copy your data
onto
any one of those storage devices. For regular documents, I find
copying folders and files using the File Manager most efficient,
but
the Back Up function under Utilities Menu is particularly handy
when
you have to back up data files such as entries in your address
book or
email messages-- You have to back up the KeyList and Keymail
folders
in their entirety as the data are stored in hidden files that do
not
automatically show up in File Manager. I admit that this is
perhaps
one of the trickiest aspects of KeySoft so feel free to let me
know if
you have any specific questions as well!
One note of caution: Yes, it is a good idea to copy your files
regularly onto external storage, but don't create/edit files
directly
from an external drive or storage card. For some reason, the
Braille
Note has an unpredictable tendency of erasing the entire
document when
you exit KeyWord if you are editing from somewhere other than
the
Flash Disk, and i have lost huge chunks of information that way.
It is
possible that they have fixed this bug in the Apex though. Hope
that
 helps!

On the braille note there is actually a menu item that does
 backup and
 restore functions...

After years of using note takers you'd think I'd realize the
 importance of
backing up files. Just recently my BrailleNote quit working.
 It's undergoing

some unknown surgical procedure at Humanware. Hopefully my data
 wasn't lost.
For those who use notetakers, how do you backup your
 information? Do you
automatically save files on a sd car rather than the internal
 memory?

I lost an entire month's worth of a 2-month long project on my
 braillelite
 once.
And I wasn't granted an extenssion so I ended up losing a ton of
 points.

 anything like that.

I'm not trying to scare you. I'm just explaining what happened
 to me! I
 had
a desktop with windows 98 on it and I had no problems with it.
I don't understand why I had all those problems with the laptop.
 I have
 to
say that I hope you don't experience a computer crash because
 that isn't
 any
fun! I lost half of my project and had to get an extenchen on
 it!

Are you trying to scare the heck out of me? My desktop computer
 that I
 have
at home is a dell computer and hopefully it won't crash on me in
 the
 middle
of something and have to replace it completely! Thank god it is
 still
 working perfectly and great.

I didn't have a good experience with dell either!
I delt with having the hard drive, the docking station, and the
 motherboard
replaced over and over again! The hard drive crashed on me when
 I was in
 the
middle of a project for school!
The entire system was replaced after a year but again the same
 thing
happened! I switched to HP and I am so much happier!

 Maybe,
but I have had terrible experiences with Dell.
My last Dell gave me a blue screen of death after like 16
 months, every
 time
I logged into my account at random intervals with XP.

 Kerri,
First of all, it depends on what you need to use the laptop for.
What functions do you need it to perform? Sometimes, spending a
 ton of
money on a high end laptop when you only need it for basic
 purposes as
opposed to, say, audio or video production, etc. is not the
 wisest idea.
 The
portability of a laptop is also key if you'll be traveling with
 it a lot.
Some of the higher end laptops are bigger and bulkier, because
 it's
technically impossible to fit all the overglamourousbells and
 wistles into
 a
smaller unit. That being said, smaller units, (13-inch -
 14-inch laptops)
can be very fastand stable as well. I don't mean this about
 netbooks, by
the way. Those clearly have slower processors, as you probably
 know, and
 are
more suitable as a backup computer.
Tosheba, I heard, is actually not a great brand; I've seen a
 fewpeople get
hosed on their laptops, actually. Although I will agree with
 whoever said
 that Sony is overpriced.
On that note, are you looking to buy abrand new computer,or
 would you be
interested in a refurbished one? Going the refurbished rout is
 usually
 much
cheaper, but still almost just as safe because the refurbished
 units have
been serviced by the manufacturer right before they're sold and
 are in
 like-new working order.
In fact, I actually happen to have a fully refurbished
 sixty-four byt
compatible laptop that I'm not using at all because I have a few
 other
computers on hand; I wouldn't mind selling it if you're
 interested. I am
fully aware that this list isn't one for sales pitches, and I'm
 not trying
 to
use it as such--Just something that popped into mind. If you're
 interested
and want more info on it, feel free to write me off-list at
 bernadetta_pracon at samobile.net.

I always save everything to a storage card immediately. This
 method has
saved me in a lot of situations with my note taker.
One time my note taker did a factory reset out of the blue. It
 scared me
to death because it was semester exam time, but fortunately
 everything
was on that card. That was some definite relief.
