v6.0!!

Yes, itâs finally here!
HIMS is thrilled and excited to finally be able
to bring you Braille Sense and Voice Sense version 6.0.
Below you will find 3 sets of instructions: and release notes ...
1: Upgrading using the Online Method.
2: Upgrading using the Offline Method.
3: Downloading and installing the Sense Bible.
Anyone running5.21 or earlier, or running the
5.51 release may use the online method to
upgrade. Please note: HIMS International will
upload the firmware after seeing this
announcement, so please give them a bit of time
to do so before overloading the server.
Smile
WARNING!! Anyone running version 5.5, you MUST
upgrade using the off line method. Even if you
are able to see the online upgrade, using this
method may cause harm to your unit requiring a
repair. please do NOT attempt it!!
Before you upgrade: Backup your settings. If you
have made changes to customize the behavior of
the Sense notetaker, you might want to backup
these changes so you can restore them after the
firmware upgrade. This may save you time in
customizing the notetaker once it is using the
new firmware. We also strongly advise that you
backup your files. Although upgrading the
firmware does not destroy the data in the
flashdisk, it is important to keep a backup of
your files in case any unexpected problems
arise. Once the new firmware is installed, all
options in the Sense notetaker are set to their factory defaults.
Attached to this message you will find a release
note describing all the changes. Please read the
onboard Help files for details on all the new
features. I will send links to new downloadable manuals
tomorrow.
Note:
The Braille sense classic does not contain the
Google Talk application available on all the
other units due to limitations of the system
hardware that could not be worked around. All of
the other functions, including the optional Bible are available.
1: Online Upgrade Instructions.
Once the Sense notetaker has been connected to
AC power and to the Internet, follow these steps to perform the
online upgrade.
(1) Press F1 (Win key) to bring focus to the main Program menu.
(2) Press U for the Utilities Menu, then once
more for Upgrade Firmware. The Sense notetaker displays,
"Upgrade: Online."
(3) Press ENTER to check for new firmware online.
(4) The Sense notetaker checks for new
firmware. If it finds it, it asks if you are
sure you want to upgrade. The default is "Yes."
(5) Press ENTER to initiate the download and upgrade process.
The Sense notetaker first downloads the firmware
files to a temporary location in the flashdisk.
The time it takes to download the files can vary
depending on the speed of the Internet
connection. Once the files are downloaded, the
upgrade process begins. The percentage of the
upgrade progress is displayed in Braille, and
progress tones are also heard. It is vitally
important that you do not press any buttons or
power off the Sense notetaker during this
process. When the upgrade is complete, the Sense
notetaker reboots. Once "File Managerâ is
displayed, press V with SPACE (Fn-V) to verify
that it is running the new firmware.
2: Offline upgrade instructions.
For those of you needing or wishing to use the offline upgrade
method:

Follow these steps to perform the offline upgrade.
(1) Download the firmware file to your PC.
(2) Extract the firmware file on your PC; there should be three
files.
(3) Copy the three files and paste them into
the root of an external storage device such as an SD card or USB
thumb drive.
(4) Insert the external storage device into the Sense notetaker.
(5) Connect the AC adaptor to the Sense notetaker.
(6) Press F1 (Win key) to bring focus to the main Program menu.
(7) Press U to open the Utilities Menu, then U
again for Upgrade Firmware. The Sense notetaker
displays/announces, "Upgrade: Online."
(8) Press Down arrow or DOT-4 with SPACE to choose "Offline."
(9) Press ENTER to check for new firmware. The
Sense notetaker searches for the firmware files
in the root of the storage device. If it finds a
newer version of the firmware than you are
currently running, it asks if you are sure you
want to upgrade. The default is "Yes."
(10) Press ENTER to initiate the upgrade process.
The Sense notetaker copies the new firmware
files and the upgrade process begins. During the
firmware installation the percentage of the
upgrade progress is displayed in Braille, and
tones are also heard. It is vitally important
that you do not press any buttons or power off
the Sense notetaker during this process. When
the upgrade is complete, the Sense notetaker
reboots. Once "File Manager (f)" is displayed,
press V with SPACE (Fn-V) to verify that it is running the new
firmware.
3: Downloading and installing the Sense Bible.
You may download the Sense Bible from the following Link:
inc.com/Programs/SenseBible.zip
Note: You cannot install this program until you
have performed the firmware upgrade to 6.0.
once downloaded, locate it in Windows Explorer, and perform an
Extract All.
When extracted, you will find a folder within it called HIMS.
Please copy the HIMS folder to the root of your flashdisk or SD
card.
Note: the HIMS folder and all its contents must
be copied to the root of the SD card or
flashdisk: the unit will scan the HIMS folder on
every reset, if the data is not located there, the program will
not be loaded.
Once the folder is copied perform a soft reset
of the unit using the reset button on the back.
After the unit reboots, the Sense Bible will be
available under the Programs Menu located in the main menu of the
notetaker.
Note: if you choose to install the Bible program
data on an SD card, this SD card must be
inserted in the notetaker on reboot or the program disappears.
You can install it again by placing the SD card
in the unit and resetting the unit once more.
Also, if you try to access the program without
the SD card inserted, you are given a message
that the card must be inserted to access the data.
