[nabs-l] new york advice on apartments

Hi all,
I can't overemphasize the fact that this list's discussions need to be
about blindness. Asking about housing options that are affordable for
someone on SSI is a blindness-related query, I think, but criticizing
someone's decision to live with her boyfriend before marriage or not
is not blindness-related. It's also not conducive to amicable
interaction, especially when religion gets involved.
As to the question at hand, about affordable housing, I'd suggest
looking at New York's Craigslist if you haven't already. New York is
expensive, but you may be able to find sublet or room-sharing options
that are in your price range. You may also qualify for Section 8
low-income housing.
The discussion of whether or not "shacking up" before marriage leads
to higher divorce rates is an interesting but complicated issue. As
stated before, it's not blindness-related, so I urge you guys to take
the debate off this list.
Respectfully,
Arielle Silverman, former listserv chair, NABS board member and NABS president
