Hi Joshua,

Your procedure will work assuming that the person doing it is checking their
email using the Gmail Web interface. If you are opening the attachment using
Microsoft Outlook or a similar email client, the attached file will open in
protected view once Microsoft Word is launched.

Yes.
All you have to do, is instead of hitting view as HTML, just open the
document, and it will save to Microsoft Word.
Then, just open the document up in Word, and you can work with it.
You can't deal with it in an E-mail, though.
